Call DC Council to support street vendors

DC street vendors have been demanding respectful treatment and an end to police harassment for years, and now they are on the verge of passing the Street Vendor Advancement Act. The first Council vote is on March 7, and they need to hear from constituents before then. Join our call-in day on Monday, March 6 to thank Chairman Mendelson and Councilmember Nadeau for introducing the act, and to tell other Councilmembers that you support it.

Hi, my name is _____ and I am calling to ask you to support the Street Vendor Advancement Amendment Act of 2023 which will have its first vote on Tuesday, March 7th. I have lived in DC/ Ward ___ for ___ years and this issue is deeply important to me. Street Vendors are a necessary and vibrant part of DC, yet they face many obstacles under current restrictive vending laws. For one, vending is a criminal offense which can lead to police harassment. Licenses are also very expensive and do not provide ample space for vendors to sell on a block. Vendors are valued members of our community and our laws should reflect that. We hope we can count on you to vote YES to pass this essential piece of legislation!

Remember to thank the staff you talk to - they work hard and are fielding a lot of our calls!

THANK YOU FOR TAKING ACTION!
Email hannah@jufj.org if you have any questions.
