Monday June 8: Flood the Phone Lines to Tell the DC Council to Finish the Job for Child Care
Our advocacy is working, and now we need one final push before the DC Council’s first budget vote budget vote on June 9. Councilmembers are listening: a supermajority spoke up for child care at the budget work session, and Chairman Mendelson has proposed new funding compared to where the Mayor’s budget started. But the proposal still falls $46.4 million short of what children, families, educators, and providers need.
That’s why we are flooding the phone lines of Chairman Mendelson and Councilmember Henderson. Sign up for a call shift on Monday, June 8 (The call will only take one minute!) and urge them to robustly fund the Child Care Subsidy Program, restore the Early Childhood Educator Pay Equity Fund, protect provider reimbursement rates, and pass a 3% Wealth Proceeds Tax on passive income from wealth held by households earning more than $500,000 per year. We have momentum. Now let’s finish the job. You will receive instructions and a call script before your call shift.
