FRIDAY 5/24 - Today we fight for critical revenue raisers! We need YOU to take 5 min to call the offices of Chairman Mendelson and Councilmember McDuffie.

The DC Council is scheduled to hold their first vote on the budget Wed. 5/29, and we need to crank up the pressure to be sure they tax wealth to equitably raise new revenue and invest it in community needs.

Take 5 min of action today, Friday 5/24/24. Make two quick calls to leave messages for:

- and Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie at (202) 724-7772

SCRIPT:

Hi, my name is _____ and I live in Ward _____ (or, I work at ____ org).

I am calling to urge (Chairman Mendelson or Councilmember McDuffie) to equitably raise new revenue to address the half billion dollars of cuts to the safety net and essential community programs.

He must do this by taxing wealth in three ways: raising the income tax rate on millionaires, increasing the capital gains tax on the highest income households, and having a higher property tax rate on the 5% highest value homes.

These revenues will save our safety net, which the mayor torched, and we need the wealthy to be part of "shared sacrifice" in this dangerously painful budget.
