THURSDAY 5/23 - Today we fight for critical investments in housing and food! We need YOU to take 5 min to call the offices of Chairman Mendelson and Councilmember R. White.

The DC Council is scheduled to hold their first vote on the budget Wed. 5/29, and we need to crank up the pressure to be sure they invest in housing and food. We need them to fully fund emergency rental assistance, housing vouchers, and SNAP for older adults.

Take 5 min of action today, Thursday 5/23/24. Make two quick calls to leave messages for:

SCRIPT:

Hi, my name is _____ and I live in Ward _____ (or, I work at ____ org).

I am calling to urge (Chairman Mendelson or Councilmember White) to invest in housing and food. He must do this by funding the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) at $63 million, putting at least $152.5 million into housing vouchers, and giving SNAP a $13.5 million raise for older adults.

It is essential that (the Chairman/the Councilmember) raise revenue by taxing wealth to make these investments in our communities and save our safety net, which the mayor torched. And we need the wealthy to also be part of "shared sacrifice" in this dangerously painful budget.
