"Hi, my name is ______, and I [AM A RENTER/LIVE IN] in [NEIGHBORHOOD]. I’m calling to ask Councilmember [NAME] to support the rent stabilization bill going to the full council next week
I'm grateful that a rent cap of 6% moved forward last week to include all types of housing. But [I/MY NEIGHBORS] still can't afford 6% rent increases. I'm worried about what happens if [I/THEY] need to move. The rent cap needs to stay in place for apartments even when a renter leaves. So in the case [I/MY NEIGHBORS] have to move, [I/THEY] can still find a place for a reasonable price because apartments will not be able to raise their prices to whatever they feel like.
SHARE SOMETHING ABOUT YOU OR A LOVED ONE FACING RENT INCREASES
You will make a big difference in our life if you pass a low rent cap that protects renters from immediate rent hikes when [WE/RENTERS] are evicted or move out.
Will you commit to a lower rent cap that stays in place when renters leave an apartment?
Thank you!"
Remember to thank the staff you talk to - they work hard and are fielding a lot of our calls!
THANK YOU FOR TAKING ACTION!
