Call Councilmember Brooke Pinto about the budget on Tuesday, June 29

Each week of budget season we're going to be calling councilmembers and asking them to act on our priorities. When we can't visit the Council in person, a personal phone call is the next best thing. This week we're calling Councilmember Pinto.

Use the script below as a guide to calling Councilmember Pinto, but feel free to share any personal reasons for why you are making this phone call. If you need help figuring out your Ward, click here.

Script:

“Hi, my name is _________ [if you live in Ward 2 add: and I live in Ward 2.] I’m calling Councilmember Pinto about Paid Family Leave and about the need to raise revenue in the budget. I strongly urge Councilmember Pinto to reject the Mayor’s proposed cuts to the DC Paid Family Leave fund. Instead, the Council should use surplus money to fund a one-year expansion of medical and family caregiving benefits to 8 weeks. I’m also calling to ask Councilmember Pinto to support raising taxes on residents who earn over $250,000 a year so the city can fund critical programs like childcare and housing for years to come. I really care about these issues because: [Your reason goes here. It can be as simple as “I care about my neighbors” or “I want to live in a city that puts people first,” but if you have a personal story about you or someone you know needing family leave or if you would be affected by the new tax, please share that!] Thank you for taking my call!”
