The Universal Paid Leave Act of 2015 was introduced to the DC Council ... and now the Council and Mayor need to hear from us!

We need to make calls to elected officials to ask them to support Paid Family Leave for DC.

Please sign up for a time on 3/17 to call At-Large Councilman Vincent Orange. Each call takes about 2 minutes.

Phone number: (202) 724-8174

Here's a sample script when you make your call or leave a message:

"Hi, my name is ______. I am calling to ask Councilmember Orange to support the Universal Paid Leave Act of 2015. This bill is a necessary lifeline for working families and will make our businesses more competitive. I care about paid family and medical leave for all because ____.

(Feel free to share a personal story or highlight important pieces of the legislation that were watered down last month)

I ask that the final bill:

--Has a reasonable definition of family and includes gender-equal caregiving [currently only covers spouse/partner or child]

--Broadly applies to medically necessary conditions [currently excludes mental health and end of life care]

--Protects progressive wage replacement rate [we must ensure it doesn't become weakened]

--DC needs 16 weeks of leave [current proposal is now only 12]

--Covers everyone who works OR lives in DC [now doesn't cover residents working outside DC, federal workers, or DC government workers]

Thank you for taking these calls and hearing from the community!"

Remember to thank the staff who you talk to - they work hard and are fielding a lot of our calls!

THANK YOU FOR TAKING ACTION! By showing the support for Paid Family Leave in our community we can really win this campaign.
